ANTHURIUM HYBRIDS FOR MENTAL HEALTH
As previously announced on my instagram I created a project named "Anthurium Hybrids For Mental Health" with plans to donate a portion of the profits of each hybrid included to a mental health charity. This is my first one. It obviously has growing to do, if you saw it on my instagram we are on the first leaves, but also the perfect time to introduce you to the name and the cause. There is more to a name than just slapping a random label on an anthurium, and of course I will release the exact hybrid on the tag when I unveil what it is (if you know why I have to be careful about releasing what I have created early you know). It will only be known as "the oil slick" in quotations and on this website. That's necessary to point out these days with hybrids being named all kinds of things. Now for the story, which 8 years later still hurt to type. -
The oil slick is not only a beautiful iridescence found in certain anthuriums and anthurium hybrids but a song written by the band Frightened Rabbit formed in 2003 in Selkirk, Scotland. Initially a solo project, for Guitarist and vocalist Scott Hutchison. It became a Glasgow based indie rock band that also included Scott's brother Grant as the drummer. Their name was based off of the childhood nickname Scott got from his mom, he was her "frightened rabbit". The Oil Slick is a song on their 2013 release "Pedestrian Verse" . On May 9th, 2018, Scott who had a lifelong battle with depression amongst other mental health conditions, was seen exiting a hotel. Grant his brother immediately tweeted out to contact the Scottish Police with any information they had regarding the whereabouts of Scott. Scott's last tweet was: "Be so good to everyone you love. It's not a given. I'm so annoyed that it's not. I didn't live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones", followed by "I'm away now. Thanks." On May 11, 2018 they confirmed found his body after committing suicide by jumping off of the fourth road bridge, the exact location he sung about doing exactly the same years before on The Frightened Rabbit album "The Midnight Organ Fight" in the song "floating in the forth". In May the following year The Hutchison family established the Tiny Changes mental health charity. They named it that after a lyric in "head rolls off" "while I'm alive, I'll make tiny changes to earth." There were charity concerts as well.
I knew Scott. I not only just loved his music, he became a friend through me and my fathers work in music. You never were sad in a room with Scott. You never were not in absolute fits of laughter actually. He gave the tightest hugs, and yes, he wrote the saddest, yet the best songs. I agree with Frightened Rabbit, that there is no band without him, but my ears still burn with excitement for that new album, or song from Scott J. Hutchison. He got me through so many tears, before all the ones I shed for him. The entire indie music worlds heart hurt that May.
I want to let you know Scott, you were so good to everyone. And everyone misses you dearly.
"There is light, but there's a tunnel to crawl throughThere is love, but its misery loves youStill got hope, so I think we'll be fineIn these disasterous times, disasterous times"
Please go to www.tinychanges.com for more information on the charitable work they do.
I hope you love your hybrid Scott John Hutchison.
